The Nut House is an idyllic rural 10 acre property at the end of our quiet country lane. Situated in Ladbrooks between Lincoln and Tai Tapu, we are perfectly located for easy access to Christchurch and many other parts of New Zealand's glorious South Island.

We specialise in providing short term accommodation. Whether you are building your new house, between selling and purchasing houses or have recently moved to Christchurch, The Nut House is quiet country living within a short commute to the City.

The Nut House Owners and Farmers Bruce and Sally

Hi there! I'm Sally, born in Christchurch and I live with my partner Bruce originally from the North Island town of Whakatane which to me as a South Islander is almost overseas! We currently share our home with 2 dogs, a feral cat and various friendly farm animals.

The Nut House is our first home together and we have just completed 10 years here. We were looking for a scenic rural property within site of the port hills and with enough space to house friends and family if and when required. We spent the first 5 years creating the separate apartment space and enjoying having various family members stay with us.

Over the last five years we have welcomed guests to stay in the apartment which has been a great way for us to meet people, work less and enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle. When not working you will find us pottering around in the garden and paddocks, there is always a project or 2 on the go. To relax we enjoy the odd game of croquet on the lawn, meals with friends and family and are overjoyed when we actually complete a project.

I would hope that you find us approachable, happy to have a chat and share a beer or a meal when invited while equally respecting guest privacy.

The Apartment

The Nut House apartment has been created within the main house although totally self-sufficient and fully furnished with separate entrance, fenced yard, bathroom, kitchen and dining area, and large lounge area.

It has 2 bedrooms currently with queen size beds. We can change one bedroom from a queen to 2 single beds. An additional single bed in the living room can be added if required.

The modern kitchen is well appointed with a gas stove, oven, microwave, full sized fridge, and an assortment of appliances including a Nespresso coffee machine.

The lounge is spacious with leather lounges, flat screen TV and a large desk for those working from home. The bathroom has a shower, bath and separate toilet. Laundry facilities are provided with a washing machine in the apartment and dryer in the shed.

The Property

The apartment has a fully fenced yard with direct access to a fenced orchard with 160 hazelnut trees. It is perfect for children as it is within sight of the kitchen and dining room which gives children a sense of independence while still in line of sight. The area has a play house and hammocks in the trees. Also a great space for adults seeking out solitude among the trees.

There is plenty of off street parking for campers and caravans with a separate entrance so you can come and go as you please.

The property is home to Bruno our golden retriever, and Ritchie our chocolate lab. There are also 2 goats, several chickens, and a small friendly herd of sheep.

The Surrounds

The neighbourhood is rural with pockets of 10 acre lifestyle blocks among large farms. We are approx 20mins to Christchurch City, 30mins to Christchurch Airport, and 10mins to nearby supermarket and several local cafes.

We are also 10mins from Lincoln University, and also Lincoln Recreation and function centre (Selwyn Sounds venue). Horncastle Stadium is a 15min drive for rugby and music fans. Halswell Quarry is a 10min drive (great for short walks in native bush). The beautiful French town of Akaroa is a 1 hour drive, and Mt Hutt is 1.5 hours away for skiers. 10mins to start of the Little River Rail Trail in Lincoln and 15mins to the recreation Port Hills.

We offer a minimum booking period of 30 days, and fees are paid weekly. There is a deposit of 4 weeks rent to be paid in advance. We offer a full refund for cancellations up to 30 days before check-in. If booked fewer than 30 days before check-in, full refund for cancellations made within 48 hours of booking and at least 14 days before check-in. After that, 50% refund up to 7 days before check-in. No refund after that.

Your own transport is a must as our nearest public transport is a 40-minute walk from the apartment.

We welcome enquiries regarding hosting indoor cats and farm animal friendly dogs on the property. However, please note that the property is only partially fenced (around the apartment and orchard).

While we are very respectful of our guests, this is a working farm and at times we may have mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws working around the property. 

Smoking is not permitted on the property.

Parties or events are not permitted on the property.
